Never buy a dog at pet store!

In our family, dogs are not just animals. They're family members. For other people, dogs are animals, pets, still deserving of humane treatment. In parts of our country and around the world, they are a commodity. Inhumane treatment is an understatement.

I knew it was a matter of time before I blogged about this very serious subject that I can only pray readers will take the time to watch and FORWARD TO ALL YOUR CONTACTS.

As a stay-at-home mother, I had the rare chance to watch a segment of Oprah. Rare because normally it's time for homework or chores. But this cold day in March, was an exception.

If you love or even like animals (dogs, cats, rabbits), and if you have furry four-legged pet now or plan to add a dog or pet to your family, PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO. I warn you it is painful to watch. But it enlightens the minds and hearts of pet owners and humane people.

An important fact to know before watching the video: 99% of dogs at dog stores or puppy stores come from puppy mills.

PLEASE HELP PUT AN END TO PUPPY MILLS!

Please consider other options such as adopting from your local city shelter, local humane society (they are separate organizations), or from a respectable breeder.

By clicking on this link, you can view the actual clip on Oprah. You may need to close the door and have tissues nearby.

To end on a positive note, here is the next segment of the same story on Oprah. It glimmers of a happy ending for some dogs that were rescued.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS BLOG TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS & FAMILY!

To end this viewing session with laughter instead of tears, view this funny video about cats by my Blog Sister, Christine. It's hilarious.

I'm so glad other people are trying to do something about this issue! I have been talking all I can with friends who are interested in getting dogs about just this situation. If people only knew how to find a good breeder if they insisted on a puppy!

Many rescue groups are specific to breeds, so people who are looking for purebred dogs can also check with those groups.
